In charge of Engineering Department and responsible to the Chief Engineer for the daily operation of the machinery spaces. At least Certificate of Competency according to STCW 95 Section A-III/2 is required as well as STCW Crowd Management Training in A-V/2-1 and Crisis Management and Human Behavior Training in A-V/2-3. Available March 2013.
To act as Senior Watchkeeping Officer or Duty Engineer as per schedule as well as be involved in regular engine room maintenance. At least Certificate of Competency according to STCW 95 Section A-III/1 is required. Preferred minimum commitment of 4 weeks. Available Now.
Carry out welding/cutting tasks as directed. A recognized welding certificate or relevant experience is required as well as completion of Basic Safety Training in accordance with IMO STCW as amended. Preferred minimum commitment of 4 weeks. Available now.
Assist the Chief Officer in the daily supervision of the Deck Department, in accordance with the Master's standing and special orders. At least Certificate of Competency according to STCW 95 Section A-II/1 from an administration recognized by the flag state of the ship, successful completion STCW Basic Safety Training in A-VI/1, 1-4, and successful completion of STCW Crowd Management Training in A-V/2-1 are required. Preferred minimum commitment of 4 weeks. Available February 2013.
The IS Manager is responsible for the relationship between Information Services and staff at a Mercy Ships operating location. This role is accountable for directing, planning and managing the delivery of an IS Help Desk and the provision computer workstations on board the Africa Mercy. Looking for candidates to make a long-term 2-year commitment, in addition to the On Boarding Training Program starting in January 2013.
The Business Analyst's role is to plan, design, develop, and launch business applications in support of Mercy Ships standard operating objectives and business processes. This includes gathering and analyzing data in support of business cases, proposed projects, and systems requirements. This individual is also responsible for generating and compiling reports based on the findings, complete with probable causes and possible solutions to systems issues. Additionally, the Business Analyst is to deliver application user training on the business applications to ensure that they are used efficiently and effectively. Position available immediately with a minimum commitment of 12 months.
IT Support Specialists
IT Support Specialist use their strong customer service skills to provide first line help desk support to Mercy Ships crew, assisting with hardware and software incidents and problems via phone, email, or tickets. Candidates should have experience in using and troubleshooting Microsoft Office applications and an understanding of PC hardware setup and configuration. Available January 2013 with three-month minimum commitment.
Individual will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining the hull and superstructure, assisting in loading, stowage/securing and unloading of cargo and ship’s vehicles, standing navigational watch on the bridge at sea or at anchor, standing gangway/security watch and conducting fire/security patrols. Candidate should possess a Certificate of Competency according to STCW 95 Section A-II/4 for Deck Rating and a practical and theoretical knowledge with regard to use of hand tools and portable power tools. Responsible to the Chief Officer through the Bosun and Assistant Bosun for general duties and also responsible to the Officer of the Watch/Day, during periods on bridge/gangway watch or on fire/security patrol. At least Certificate of Competency according to STCW 95 Section A-II/4 is required as well as having practical and theoretical knowledge with regard to use of hand tools and portable power tools. Minimum commitment of 1 month is preferred. Position is available now.
General repairs of vessel’s accommodation including carpentry, flooring and furnishings work as well as assisting in the mooring of the ship. Also required to carry out night time duties of fire watch and cleaning of the accommodation/galley during night time duties. Assist other departments where and when required in a spirit of co-operation. Prepare to be trained in Firefighting, Lifeboat manning and Emergency Procedures as well as wear the correct protective clothing for the job at all times. Maintaining of Carpentry shop and associated equipment is also required. Preferred minimum commitment of 4 weeks. Available now.
